South Platte Renew
The Future Of Roofing Is Seamless! ™
Our South Platte River project was a significant undertaking involving the refurbishment of a 500,000-gallon wastewater tank. The main challenge was the restoration of the failing iron rim at the top, which connects the metal lid to the concrete wall of the tank. This rim was corroded, allowing gas vapors to escape. Our job was to restore this rim to SSP10 near-white metal using sandblasting, ensuring a robust, monolithic seal to prevent gas leaks.

The project was particularly demanding due to the large diameter of the rim and the difficult access areas. We used an angle nozzle for sandblasting and a small spray gun to apply our polyurea coating to access the difficult areas. This critical phase required us to work continuously for 36 hours over the 4th of July weekend, prompted by an urgent need to replace a failed epoxy coating previously applied by another company. An engineer from Denver Water, aware of our specialized expertise, called us in. Benji, a renowned coating expert from PPG, helped devise a plan using fast-setting polyurea to meet the tight deadline.
Our dedicated team completed the project successfully, passing all inspections and significantly extending the tank's life by at least 10 years, with expectations of an even longer lifespan. Since completion, there have been no further issues with off-gassing, demonstrating the effectiveness and reliability of our work.
